SMC Sponsors Know Breaks Racing

Salisbury Motor Car is sponsoring CNY-based Know Breaks Racing, a new rally car team that in 2009 campaigned a 1988 Audi 90 quattro in some major events, including Rally New York, Rally Tennessee, and Targa Newfoundland. The team consists of co-drivers Dr. Andrew Wickline, an orthopedic surgeon (who knows breaks) from Clinton, NY; Grant Segall from Columbus, IN; and photographer/driver Steve Kurey from Dunmore, PA.

SMC's Art Mayhew found the team a car, a "rally-ready" 1988 Audi 90 quattro, and he and his mechanics prepped the car and sent the team off to Rally New York last April. Despite rain and snow, and the team finished 15 out of 39 entrants. At Rally Tennessee, a tire blowout caused an early retirement, The 2009 Targa Newfoundland race, run in September, consisted of 1,300 miles and 5 days of timed racing over paved roads. Some sections of public roads were closed for high-speed driving, while other sections were timed transit stages. Unfortunately, a crash led to the team's DNF.
